Rooftop Solar Savings: Realistic Numbers
Where solar savings actually come from — self-consumption versus export credit — and how to set a realistic first-year estimate.
Disclaimer: This page is general information only. Tariffs, net-metering rules, and DISCO procedures change—verify with your distribution company and official NEPRA materials before making purchase or wiring decisions.
Where savings come from
Every unit you use directly from the panels is a unit you don't buy at your current tariff, variable charges included. Every unit you export instead gets whatever credit or adjustment your DISCO's net-metering rules apply — a different, usually smaller, number.
Both numbers move with the season, with dust on the panels, and with how your household actually uses electricity day to day. Build a first-year estimate on conservative assumptions rather than a best-case month.
Use your bill as baseline
Before trusting a rooftop survey's savings projection, pull twelve months of your own duplicate bills through the official PITC flow and look at your actual monthly kWh and slab pattern. That's a better baseline than any generic estimate a salesperson hands you.
