Routine care

A dry spell lets dust build up fast enough to noticeably cut output. Rinsing helps, but follow your installer's guidance on water pressure and timing — early morning or evening only, never on hot panels — and confirm your specific frame and roof actually tolerate rinsing before you try it. Leave loose DC connectors alone unless you're trained for it; live DC wiring isn't a DIY job.

Check inverter error codes and yield ratios through the manufacturer's app or display regularly. A drop compared with the same month last year is worth a service call, not a shrug about it being "a cloudy month."

Seasonal checks for Pakistan's climate

Inspect mounting bolts, cable glands, and roof penetrations for water damage or corrosion before and after monsoon season. Heavy rain does have one upside — it can wash the panels clean, which sometimes shows up as a small, temporary output bump.

After a dust storm or a heat wave, look for discoloration, hot spots, or fine cracks on the panel glass, and check that birds or rodents haven't chewed through cabling or gotten into a junction box — an under-discussed but genuinely common cause of unexplained yield drops.

When to call a professional

Call your installer for any DC-side fault, repeated inverter shutdowns, burn marks or an odd smell near the inverter or combiner box, or a yield drop past roughly 10-15% with no obvious weather cause. Keep the commissioning report, warranty cards, and single-line diagram somewhere you can grab them quickly — a technician moves faster with that paperwork in hand.
